Dr. K hated his mandatory yoga classes in his high school in India but loved the meditation sessions – shav asana – dead body pose. A decade later, he needed meditation to survive his PhD dissertation work. He has messed with bio-feedback and neuro-feedback technique to fine-tune his meditation practice since 2008. He has authored more than 25 publications and is co-author of the book “How to Beat the Heart Disease Epidemic among South Asians”. He has completed 3 marathons and several other endurance events, using mindfulness techniques. Dr. K is an adjunct professor in a graduate cybersecurity program – his professional interests include social engineering, application/product security training and cybersecurity awareness through games.
Jennifer has been an information security professional for the past 20 years and is currently a Security Intelligence Analyst. Her experience includes reverse engineering malware, penetration testing, vulnerability analysis, and incident response. Jennifer studied biology and psychology and focused her studies on neurology. Her passion for brain science, coupled with computer science, has been a driving factor in her interest in the technological singularity and human/machine integration. In her free time she runs a robotics club for kids and is learning to play the ukulele. She is an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers, William Shakespeare, and the oxford comma.
Darren Lawless is a security analyst with 13+ years of plugging dykes and playing sentry. He currently leads the threat monitoring team for a large security services organization. His interest in all things *bio* has blossomed and intensified over the last couple years resulting in forays, experimentation, and investigation into nootropics, biofeedback, and augmentation, implantation, brain stimulation, and a sundry wet-tech bad-assedness.
Meditation is becoming a buzz-word for “beating” stress but seems very complicated to learn. We will show how DIY (Do It Yourself) brain technology projects such as DIY EEG (electroencephalogram) and tDCS (Transcranial direct current stimulation) can actually work as training wheels for a relaxed and energized mind. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), is a non-invasive, painless brain stimulation treatment that uses direct electrical currents to stimulate specific parts of the brain. A constant, low intensity current is passed through two electrodes placed over the head which modulates brain activity.
Volunteers will be invited for on-screen demos and DIY designs will be shared.
